This might be old news, but I if found out that the High Beam Headlight bulb also has a low beam filiment in it!! The plug for the bulb has two connectors, but the bulb has three prongs. So I did a little testing and found that the third prong is a lower watt light in the same bulb. I hooked up the pod light for true High/Low operation. I just made up a connector to fit in the plug and patched it into the low beam circuit. Mine is a 00' SP 500 made in May 2000, so I don't now if this is common or something new. The wiring diagram also showed the second filiment, but no wiring for it. Once I get the right diode, I'll have three lights on in high and three on in low. I tried it out and it really works great.

Let us know how this setup works out for you. The one thing I have found since owning my sp500 is that when the pod light is on in reflects light off of anything you are carrying on your front rack. I would think this setup could be a big distraction if you strapped down something on the rack directly in front of the pod.
I guess what I really don't understand is why the lower headlights are not set up to work on both hi/low beam.
The selector switch I would prefer would be something like: 1) off 2) low 3) Hi (lower lights) 4) All (high beam)

Just realised that I'll need to have an extra diode to hook up the low beam lights. Otherwise, both filiments on the pod light will be on and I'm not sure how much amperage it will draw. Be carefull if you try this mod. I don't use the front rack that often, so glare isn't a big issue for me. But this light setup will be awsome for snowplowing in the winter!!
