We compete in the SAE Mini-Baja competitions each year. Our website is http://www.rit.edu/~bajawww/2000/

Without going into much detail I was wondering if anyone could give me hints on tuning our CVT clutches for our application.

Our vehicle ways approx. 370lbs, we use a 10hp / 14lbs.ft Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke OHV engine, running through Polaris ATV CVT clutches and into a constant 9.2:1 double chain reduction transmission. Redline is approx. 3000rpm. Top speed currently is about 35mph.

Last year we pretended to tune but it was really just hit and miss trying different weight and spring combinations. Can anyone offer or point us to basic hints for tuning for our application? I have yet to find any sort of resource which offers general information about how the different weights and springs in both the primary and secondary clutches affect upshifting, downshifting, and final gearing. I realize tuning in our situation is going to be quite different from that of an ATV simply due to our engine output (or lack there of). Any tips or links would be greatly appreciated...thanks!
