Plating an ATV
#1
Seems like a silly question, but I can't figure out why get a license plate for an ATV would be any different than getting one for a dirtbike. I'm in denver, CO, and I know all you need is a mirror, turn signals, head and tail lights, brake light... and I think that's it. Anyone know if it can be done. I'm not exactly sure why I'd want to, but can I?

It just doesn't make sense. how is a quad any more dangerous than any motorcycle out there, or better yet, how about those stupid scooters. I'd much rather be on a quad then a scooter. I guess it's all politics.
What has to be DOT approved about it? I registered my WR400. It isn't any different really. And in an accident, you're messed either way.

In most states you can not register a motor veichle, unless it meets the DOT standards. As you stated; "mirror, turn signals, head and tail lights, brake light... ". Most ATV factories title their machines as not "ABLE" to meet the DOT standards. Keeps down the lawyers off their backs ... But this is not true for all states, but most. IE: in illinois the IDOT said any machine that has 4 wheels must have DOT approved bump front and rear and seat belts ... they didn't care if it's and ATV.
