Default 2003 Polaris 700 Twin Right Rear Axle Removal

Has anyone here attempted to replace their inner CV joint boot? I attempted to per the manuals instructions and the inner cv joint itself came apart when attempting to pull the shaft assembly out of the rear differential housing. I was told that the cv joint should have been string enough to pull the shaft out of the differential so there must have been wear in the cv joint to come apart like that. Now I am attaching c-clamps etc. and a 20lb. slide hammer to the remaining inner cv joint hub to remove it from the differential housing and I am having no luck. The hub is supposed to be retained by a simple expanding locking ring in the differential housing. I am literally breaking c-clamps etc. trying to pull the shaft hub. Anyone run into this problem? I am installing a new complete shaft since it is ony $70 more for that compared to an inner cv joint. I just need to get the inner half of the inner cv joint out of the differential housing. Thanks for any info.

had this problem, since your not using the cv over, here may be a way to get it out. i wleded a nut that fit a slide hammer threaded end to a plate and the welded plate to cv joint. came right out.

Ok, thanks. So you were having a problem too then? I was tempted to weld but was hoping to do that as a last resort. Too many stories about surging cdi boxes etc. Also seal damage etc. I realize the hub has quite a bit of mass and should safely absorb the heat and prevent bike damage but just the concept of this much pulling power to remove a hub had me suspiscious of the manual in case it was showing an incorrect design for example a hub helod in with an inner flange instead a simpe expansion locking ring, therefore busting up a rear differential housing using the extra force. I was planning on making a two piece clamp that would grab onto the outer cv joint boot groove machine into the hubs outer perimeter and yanking on that with the slide hammer. Sound like I am in the right track then. Thanks again.
