should i trade my 500 on a grizzly?
I would run from the deal.....I ride with sportsman 500's-700efi's. I have a 400 sport 2wd. We also have a Griz in our pack. Let me tell you that Griz gets stuck in more places than I do with 2wd. Not only that. But the guy has been launched from the bike a few times because it is so top heavy. Just last weekend I was leading the pack back to our trucks. I went through a somewhat small stream. The other side of the stream was a 10 foot hill. I climbed right up it with my 2wd (and mud lites) My brothers 700efi made it effortless. The Griz tried next. He made it half way up the hill and spun the tires and had to back down in to the stream. Then he hit it again. I knew something was going to happen. I got off my bike. He came to the top of the little hill. The front r tire comes off the ground and begins to spin. The front L is doing absolutely nothing. I almost reached the quad to put some weight on the front. Then he started to spin. Well I guess he got scaired and kept on the gas. While spinning he slid backward down this little 10 foot hill a few feet and the rear wheels cought traction on a root. Do I need to tell you what happened next. All I saw was the rider coming off the bike, and disappeared in the stream while the 600# griz was on top of him. I jumped down the hill, my brother followed and the rider managed to get out of the way somehow without being pinned. He pulled his helmet water was rushing out everywhere. Ohh it was like 40-50 degree water. It just snowed here last week. His handle bars were bent to the tank. We pulled them up the best we could and rode back to the truck. Luckly the rider escaped any broken bones. That guy has the worst luck with that Griz. I admit a good part is his riding ability, but The bike has not proven to me any kind of ridability. Just to plain tipsy, and it needs some kind of locker in the front. It don't go through hardly anything. JMO

Not this topic again. Surely you are joking Baller. Just in case you are not, go here, http://atv.polarisindustries.com/atv/videos.aspx, and click on the All-Wheel Drive Video. That should help.

I saw all the videos before... I know about the AWD. I just dont like it.. I like the fact that you can ride whatever style you like to ride. 3wd, or locked. Awd makes it hard to turn cuz all the wheels are spinning. And 3wd is nice because it gives power to the wheel thats slipping n you have good handleing with it.

I can see your point, I guess its a matter of ones riding style and preference. I don't do a lot of trail riding and have never had any steering problems or difficulty. I actually am amazed at the ease of the Polaris steering even when it is digging with all 4, but that's just me. I think the traction of the Polaris is one of its strengths and is very handy when it comes to hauling manure into the field up hill.

Don't do it. I can see your point with the grizz being lighter and sportier but you will miss the comfort, stability, strength, and ease of use of the AWD of your Polaris. You can get an SP600 for nearly the same price as the 500 but the power gains would only really be down low and a bit of top end. Why don't you hold out for the 500 EFI that has been rumored to be coming out next year. If you really want speed in a utility machine you can't beat the Kawi Prairie 700 and the Brute 650, which is the same bike with different plastic, is even cheaper, I've seen them at $5400. For the $$ you can't beat them but again you sacrifice the Polaris perks above. Good luck.
ryankmiller,
A lot of those situations you describe with that Grizzly sounds a lot more like rider skill than the quad to me. If the Grizzly has trouble making it through something in 4wd that you can do in 2wd then that simply comes down to nothing else but tires and rider ability IMO.

I am not starting nothing here but I never had a problem turning in AWD engaged, and we do alot of twist and turns alot in AWD. My friend has 400i Arctic Cat and it has the regular 4wd and neither 1 can tell a difference and we ride each others all the time.

Nice job OffRder, that bike is quite a deal for the $$ and you will probably never miss the ground clearance out on the trail and you can slide that thing around like a Sport quad while you fly buy guys like me on Sp600's. Lucky for you I carry a tow strap and chain to pull you out of the mud hole ahead, just kidding! Have fun on that V-Twin beast, let us know how the speed compares to the other big bores, I for one am curious. Chadwick
