start by bench bleeding the cylinder. this can be done on the bars, simply hold your finger over the hole for the line and slowly squeeze lever, letting off as you squeeze and holding over it when letting back out. put on line and bleed brake calipers as normally would. i usually start at the front and go to the back. also after you hook line up slowly pump lever to expel air from cylinder, you also may need to turn bars one way and then the other to release air trapped in cylinder. not very hard, just takes a little time.

Funny...
I bought my '00 Trail Boss brand new, which was a feat, because I was so poor I didn't have a pot to pee in.
Anyway...the day I took it home, its FIRST ride, mind you, I got too close to a tree and broke the handle off. So I had to replace my master cylinder and handle and everything (at my cost, of course). But I didn't have to bleed the lines, thank goodness!

ive done that too, not having to completely bleed the system. sometimes you can bench bleed the cylinder and then it will pull what little air got in at the top. did this on mine, would not do it myself on someone elses quad.
