Default adding a recoil on 700/800

We have an old 96 sp500 that had a recoil backup. Thank heavens too, I think we had to use it more then the electric start. We mainly use the atv in fall and winter for hunting and hauling wood and it would be too cold to start with electric. We are getting a new 700 or 800 and wondering if it is possible to add a recoil backup.

We've discussed this here before, it would be pretty hard to install one. With the EFI, chances are there would be no need to ever use it. I've started my machine in the cold down to zero degrees and it fires right up. The EFI machines are nothing like the carb'd models, they fire right up and no choke necessary....they don't have a choke on them, the EFI calculates everything....

Yea like Dave said. If a EFI don't fire up in any weather condition something is wrong. Does your truck have a recoil back up start on it?

I agree with Dave and Aaron but I do think it would be cool to see if it's possible to install a recoil starter on the new models which don't come stock with them.

Adding the recoil to a Twin is the first problem. Once/if you get it installed, then you actually have pull start it. Have you ever tried to pull start an MV? I have, and all I can say is, thank god I don't have to do it often......

ya you guys are probably right. I was just so glad to have a recoil backup on our 500 because we would be screwed in so many cases when it didn't start. Our model 500 was also known to have a bad starter and it went right before our gun deer seasonWe keep it up north and we couldn't service it so we had pull start it through the whole season. I guess polaris had fiked that problem by now.

lol....I was down at the dealer yesterday, I should have pulled and and pulled my shoulder out of socket....definitely has to have a compression release....I think you can look at the parts diagram on the MV and see what it uses and how it installs

You would not be able to start an EFI without the battery ... even with pull start! The EFI computer needs power to inject fuel and run the timing ... I highly doubt a pull starter could turn it over fast enough to make enough power to power-up the EFI computer, inject fuel, and spark the plug. IMO and EFI would need at lease a jump to get the EFI up and running and then you may be able to pull start it.

Even if you could get the pull start installed, I looked up the parts, not including the stator would run over $800....
