Default very hard to start

my 400 is very hard to start. i took a compression test and it read 125 pounds. would lack of compression cause this? i have removed the starter therefore i have too use my pull start. when cold, i have to pull anywhere from 15-20 times to get it started. this cant be rite.
when warm it seems to start and idle fine

any help is greatly appreciated

thanks

ross

mine starts on two or three pulls.
check the choke, it may need to be adjusted, also see if the plug is fouled.

done it. wats da deal with the compression? i have maybe 40 hours on my engine. the only thing i could figure is that my rings are chiped. a couple of months ago my studs that connect the jug to the case broke. i tore everything down, installed a girdle kit and a case saver. im wondering if i over looked my rings.

It should still start ok with that compression, make sure the reeds are ok also, and check the choke adjustment.

It is very likely that you are running too lean at start up. You might want to drop the needle clip to richen it up. It needs way more fuel to start in colder weather. You are clost to me so weather is about the same. My moded 250 would not start right away in the colder weather unless I change the clip position.
