I am not trying to start an argument here so please don't take me the wrong way. Making it through tough situations has a lot more factors than just the machine such as, speed (HIT IT HARD!), tires, weight transfer, etc. With that being said, I have been using my diff lock on my Brute Force less and less lately. There are many times that true 4wd is needed but I was suprised to find myself making it through some stuff in "unlocked" 4wd. Most guys that do serious muddin with the Vinson end up getting the Detroit gearless locker for $350. I do agree it should have a locker from the factory just like the King Quad. Maybe '06 will have that

I have to agree with you OffRder15, Driver ability does play a big part. I should have mentioned he is a 300lb rookie with the coordination of a overweight 1st grader. But, when I jumped aboard to try my luck getting through the mud, I felt helpless. I once againg agree I'm wasnt use to the machine.

ok, it will be a cold day in hell before a sportsman is the sportiest atv out there. unless its heavily modified, its not gonna be sportier than a scrambler. ive put 1000's of miles on the scrambler and sportsman, and there is no comparison for sportiness. one main factor in this is the IRS vs SRA...which im not gonna get into right now. but compare weight...572vs697( or up)...theres a 125 lb difference, which doesnt seem like alot, but in hard driving, you notice it. the sportsman is great in its element, no questions asked there. itll go anywhere you want it to, and rides like a caddy. but to call it the sportiest atv out there is just plain out wrong, its way too heavy and bulky.... its like saying a raptor is the best utility out there....
back to the topic. it really depends on your riding style. the vinson is more utility oriented, while the scrammy is more of a play machine. for less experienced riders, id say go with the scrammy. its a real simple machine to drive. its got f-n-r, so that makes it all the easier. just give it gas and go. for work, the vison has it hands down. it comes to down to the intentions of the ATV... dont know if that sounded right? Its in the latest issue of ATV 4 wheel action. The BF 650 won the shootout but the sportsman was 2nd and topped all the 500 models.
