I forgot to ask you. Was the 6 mos warrany expired and did you have an extended warranty or did they fix it as a factory defect? I need all the ammunition I can get if I have to take it to a dealer.

i had the extended warranty thankfully or else it would have been pricy.....i would recommmend getting the warranty....even if nothing does go wrong its worth the insurance...generally probl;ems will develop earlier rather than latermy machine also has 4500 miles on it it gets alot of use

My 04.5 Sp600 reads the same way when the full "2 quarts" is put in at an oil change. I also drained and measured the amount it took to put the level at the top of the safe zone; about 8 ounces. So it's closer to 1.75 quarts or 1 3/4 quarts than it is to 2. In other words, 1 quart and 24 ounces approx. Seems lame for the owners manual and all the other literature to be 8 ounces off.

Seems to be over the full mark with 2 quarts.

I have the same problem. 2 quarts is over the safe limit. When I asked the dealership, they said just put 2 in there. So that is what I have been doing. I am due for another change and I will keep an eye on it.

Are you guys using the correct procedure for checking the oil? Check your manuals, start the engine and let it idle for 20-30 seconds then stop the engine and check it to get the correct reading. I would never run less than 2 quarts in the system...

Well you learn something new everyday. I did check the manual and you are exactly right. It appears that the oil I removed from the crankcase is coolant free so I will put it back in and check the oil level using the "Manual Instructions on checking oil". doesn't make sense to start an engine first before checking the oil. You are checking the oil to prevent engine damage in the event there is not enough. If oil is supposed to be warm when checked then there would be a "hot" and a "cold" reading on the stick. Mine always reads the same regardless of temperature. Also doesn't make sense that the marks on the dipstick are pretty much useless with the "2 quart" theory. I'm sticking with the dipstick until someone from Polaris Engineering tells me to do otherwise.
