When trying to start the trail boss the started bendix engages only for a second or two before it releases. When it disengages the starter and bendix still spin, I replaced the bendix with a new one about a year ago but never was perfect. The started is original and never removed, is it getting weak and doesn’t have enough torque to engage the dendix assembly?

I have the cover off and can watch the bendix , it still looks new.
