Default 700efi sputtering...fixed

Hey guys I took the bike to the dealer due to the sputtering problem I had after I let the bike sit for a week after some good trail riding. I was in some deep mud and water...but never over the seat. Anyway tell me what you guys think of my dealer...are they ripping me off?? The bike has 18.5 hours so I figured let them do the 20 hour oil change and service. They did that and told me the reason the bike was sputtering so bad and no power but idled fine was due to the pre filter??? He sail it was clogged which caused the plugs to foul. He said they also reset the computer and re-routed the prefilter. When I asked him where it was incase it happens again he shrugged his schoulders and said "somewhere under the seat." Then told me the bill was $195.97. I don't mind paying money for good service but needless to say I left with an uneasy feeling. The first question they asked me when I had inquired about service before all this happend was "did you buy it here?" Truth is they would not budge on the price so I went else where and got the bike for $1200 less than their lowest price. I didn't tell them that though.

thanks in advance for your input.
Franco

Franco....I do all my own service because of dealer prices, so can't say what most charge, but usually high. I realize this is warranty, shouldn't have been an issue and I think the dealer ripped your off. Not exactly sure what the 'prefilter' is, but I'm sure someone will ring in. They may be talking about the filter/drain off of the airbox?

The price they charged was very high. Good thing you saved on the price when you bought it....

The prefilter is like a screen thing that goes over your filter to help keep the filter clean. All you do is take it off wash it out with some soap and water and let it dry then reinstall. If it was clogged it could cause you to run rich and foul the plugs. But almost $200.00 thats unreal I would find another dealer.

Dang, what a dumbass I am, wasn't even thinking about that....the prefilter that is...

then again, what does 're-routed the prefilter' mean? guess that threw me off....

I still use the polaris prefilter over the top of my K&N....

Maybe he re-routed the foam around the snorkles under the gas tank.
My machine sucked that foam into the airbox snorkle once and ran like sheet until i figured out what it was.

some dealers might feel slighted that they lost the sale of the ATV and now you're there for service. to look for any favors/discounts/freebies from that dealer is an insult.

go back to the dealer you bought it from.

Yea, I use my prefilter over my K&n to help keep dirt out of the filter and I take it off after a couple rides and wash it out.

You can tell this dealer is not going to help you when you asked him where it was incase it happens again he shrugged his schoulders and said "somewhere under the seat." If it was a good dealer he would have showed you.

I could not be the prefilter around the airfilter cause I took the whole filter off and tried the bike without it and the problem was still there. I then reinstalled the filter and set the appointment with the dealer. How do you reroute the prefilter anyway? Doesn't it wrap around the stationary airfilter element? Oh well live and learn. I will have to buy an atv jack so I can do my own oil changes cause they said it would be about $110.00 everytime I bring it in for its scheduled maintenance. Is it hard to change the oil on the 700efi? Thanks in advance guys...
