identifying a cyclone cylinder
#1
How can you tell a cyclone cylinder from a regular 250 cylinder? I suppose port size, but without those numbers I don't know. Found one used, but the seller isn't sure either. That would be a nice performance upgrade if it was indeed from a cyclone. Are the casting #s the same?

I am positive the porting is different, I had a 88 trail boss and friend had a 87 Cyclone. Been into these motor before, but a long time ago.
But by merely looking, GL
Check out this site, http://www.polarisoemparts.com/ punch in the numbers off the cylinder.
BTW, Cyclone and Trailboss cylinders are different part numbers per the breakdown on that site.
Another thought, there could of been some porting done from a stock cylinder? Or U could get some porting done anyway.
My TB, I more or less made into a Cyclone motor, CArb, Head and port job. Also had a Cyclone pipe. She sure did scream

Check the intake manifolds . Cyclone has a different bolt spacing . This is the easiest way to tell .
Yes , the porting is different too .
Note -- > Polaris detuned these engines to keep them from wearing out so quick ;-)
Note -- > Stock cylinder and 488 sled piston will go good too .. The intake skirt is a little shorter .

I suppose the manifold would have to have a wider bolt pattern because of the 38mm.
What's this 488 piston business all about? Stock tb cylinder? What is the bore size? and what would I gain?
