04 trailboss clutch springs
#1
ive heard people talk about changing the clutch springs and even talked to my dealer about it. he said it wouldnt really do much without other mods. anyway, what are my options in doing this? and what does it do? how is it done? my 4wheeler is pretty new to me and is bone stock...im mainly looking to get a little more bottom end to it and if this is a cheap/easy fix i would consider it. thanks

First off dont belive all the BS the dealers give you(most, not but most )dont have a clue about improoving Polaris performance. If you want a cheap gain in performance go to a dealer and tell them you want a primary spring for a 400 Scrambler. This is a what is call a white spring. It will lok plain but have white paint on a end.It is a very simple change too.Take the belt cover off, hold the front clutch in place, take the center bolt out, take the 6 small bolts out replace spring put it all back together(be sure to line up the Xs on the 2 clutch pieces).Torque the smaall bolts to around 17(not real tight)and the center bolt to 40 lbs(preaty tight) And then you will think you have a new machine.

Your dealer does not know what he is talking about. Changing the primary clutch spring is the biggest performance gain you can do to a 4 stroke. It does not add HP but it tunes the clutch to shift better and gets more power to the ground. From the factory the clutching is very tame. I have done nothing else to my 330 except a EPI pink primary spring, K&N filter. It is like night and day. It would only do 45mph and decellerate going uphill to about 35mph. The max rpm's were 5500. Now with the spring the rpm's are at 6300 with top speed of 52mph and will hold rpm's going uphill. So with just the pink spring I gained 800 rpm's and 7mph on the top. It pulls way harder. There are so many different springs. It all depends on how you want it to shift. Do you want better bottom end or better mid to top end. Some springs raise the engagement so it takes off strong but can hurt slow technical trail or rock riding. Some springs take off a little better then stock but then pulls hard from mid to top end to get your top speed up. Look at my pics to see some of the mods that I have.

I have tried the white primary and I dont think it did much. It was ok on take off but did nothing for mid to top end. If you are interested in that spring you can PM me. The white primary spring made a much bigger difference in my 250.

I personaly think you should stick with a white the pink will raise the rpms up to where you could get into trouble with a stock engine. But 2many will give it the test.
