I have a 96 trail boss and thought the starter was going out cause the bendix would not stay engaged more than a second or two before disengaging. I rebuilt the starter and it still does the same thing like it doesn’t have enough torque to keep the dendix out. The bendix is only a year and a half old.

Any ideas what is causing this ?
