Default What is squish clearance ?

I was reading RCR's site info, and in head milling it said "squish clearance". What is it and how important is it?

Squish clearance is the gap between the topof the piston and the bottom on the head at TDC. Whith bit of math, cn figure out the copression ratio. This is verry critical for figuring out timeing and fuel octane uses. Tight er the squish and higer compression means more HP.

Thanks for the info, I had .020 taken off a 93 trailboss 250 head. Do I need to address this issue?

u should be running at least premium fuel, take more off, should step up to 20% 110 to get rid of detonation.

Thanks again, our mid grade is 89, our premium is 93. There is also some race gas around, 100 I think. Mods aren't all done yet so testing is a ways off.
