Default Scrambler 500 clutching questions(Finaly got a tach)

I finaly got to take out the scrammy with the tach installed. It engages at 2500 RPMs, and is shifting out around 5500-6000 rpms. Is this close to were I want to be?

The charts I have seen online show HP peak around 7000(Aaen chart),6000(HPD chart) RPMs I don't know my peak as I can't find any charts from White bros.(My exhaust), and have no way to Dyno it.

Everytime I ride it I get blisters on my hands from trying to hold on to it. Do I need new grips, or different gloves?

That's about where you want to be. With the blue HSP primary I'm engaging at 3,000 & full shift at 7,000. But with the HPD plain primary, which is currently installed, I'm engaging at 2,300-2,500 & full shift at 6,600-6,800 & notice no difference in top end power, yet still have a little lower engagement for slower speeds. I too have checked out Aaen & HPDs dyno tests & if you look close the 500 makes its peak power by 6,200 rpm, so as long as you're revving to at least that you're still getting full H.P.

From what I've researched, the 500 can't take anymore than 6,800-7,000 anyhow.

The shift out is the rpms it stays at when accelerating right? Is that the same as full shift out?

Full shift out is when you are at WOT and top speed with the belt shifted out about 1/4" out of the primary.

I'd call it the up-shift. Mine when you nail it jumps right to around 6,200 drops a little to maybe 6,000 then rises to a max of 6,800-7,000 if I have enogh room to keep it wide open for long enough.

From what I have read, rpms when shifting is the important part to know when tunning your clutch. you want your rpms to stay around the same throughout shifting from a little past engagement, to close to full shift out. That is the rpms you need to be as close to your peak HP as you can get it. The dynos say between 6000 and 7000 rpms is peak, so you would want to stay around 6000 during acceleration, until you reach full shift out.

Hey jim, what wires did you hook the tach to? I tried installing mine awhile ago but couldn't figure out what to hook the signal wire to.
