ATV pack recommendations
#1
Does anyone have a recommendation for a sturdy pack or trunk? I bought two packs from ATVlogic that I used probably 10 times and the zippers are already trashed on both of them. I'd recommend against ATVlogic packs until they implement a heavy duty zipper.
My criteria: Not too tall. The ideal size would be 35"x12"x9". I'm leaning toward a hard shell this time. Perhaps with a lock built in. I'd want to mount the trunk to the rack, so that no one could easily rip it off during a lunch break.
I've seen a rubbermaid industrial tool box that might work (but looks like a toolbox).

Cabella's carries a diamond-aluminum box about the right size, but it looks heavy.

This one seems like the ultimate in trunks (does it come with it's own refridgerator?):

Any opinions or experiences?

I am currently using a soft type pack and I am not happy with it. I leaks mud and water into it and gets everything wet. I guy we ride with got a box at Walmart with lock on it and it works pretty good. I seen them in the auto department there for around $20. I think it is a little wider than you were thinking though. He generally has everything but the kitchen sink in there

JA been there done that had soft pac and it faded, the only one that I had that was any good was stolen with my quad and the guy don't make them any more.I have the CAJUN dry box on mine and I like it it doesn't lock though.Man that metro thing is pricey, the CAJUN was like $89.I put some 1x2's under it so it would set above the hump on back of rack, painted them black and bolted it to the rack. One more word of caution if you are mounting some thing to the rack use old piece of carpet or something like that between box and rack. The box will scrape your rack and remove some of the finish, then if you sell quad and want to remove box you have terrible looking rack, been there done that.O ne thing you need to watch for on some boxes is the width, they will just catch edge of seat and you have to remove box to get seat off, been there and done that also. That was reason for shiming the cajun box so could move it back on rack. Im really glad to see this post. I have a Cabela's weatherproof bag. Note it says weatherproof. Not sure if they even get rain where they are because one little drop of water will find its way inside the bag. I have ridden in the rain with it and found it full of water. Not a good product. I have been ona quest to find something more watertight. So far I have looked at:
Cajun Dry store (seems too small because of a small opening and doesnt lock):

Tamarack boxes (the woman on the phone told me they are watertight unless you submerge them and keep them submerged and they dont lock):

I have also been eyeing those Polaris boxes that I have seen in Dirt Wheels. I asked someone about them and they told me to pick up a catalog. I will have to do it because they look like they are of high quality. Keep us posted on what works good.

The Tamarack boxes are lockable on both latches with a padlock. I have not tried to submerge mine, but it did keep my 00 sp500 from goining completely under water when I accidentaly found a 12' hole in the river. The only time I have gotten water in it is when I use a pressure washer. Best box I found yet.Makes a good back rest when taking a break on a ride.
