Aftermarket Brakes for Scrambler 500
#1
I have a 2000 SC500 bought new in Nov 99 and am already on the third set of rear brakes.. Second set of fronts.. Would like to know if anyone is using aftermarket brakes with better luck.. Dealer uses lame excuses like "It's alot of weight to stop ya know" Guess Polaris should have figured that in the first place.. Thanks for any help...

The rear brakes on my wifes trail boss wore out very quickly also. I replaced them with sintered metal pads. There is a company offering solid brass brake pads that are suppose to last three times as long. You can read about them at www.boxbrakes.com. He does not list any for Polaris yet, but he sent me a picture of the first Polaris pads he made. I think these will be the next set I buy for a replacement for the trail boss pads.

Gary Box DOES have the copper pads for Polaris.I ordered a set of them yesterday.Click on his web site or give him a call at 1601-645-6076,call him after 7pm.He only has the rear pads though.
For the fronts?Polaris makes 3 types of pads, soft, medium, and severe duty. You can purchase BOTH sets of SEVERE duty pads for 35 dollars from Polaris, they last alot longer.Bill

The severe duties from Polaris do last pretty long. The rear pads will wear way faster than the front. When I oreder pads now, it's 2 sets for the rear for 1 set(4) of fronts.
I have noticed that my EBC sintered pads last longer than the Polaris heavy duties... Just a thought!
I am waiting for some guys on the forum to try the box-brakes and give us the scoop on durability and "stoppability".(thats not a real word?)
