Tyler, thanks for all the info.
I noticed that you have the 60" glacier plow.
I have 1/3 mile gravel road to keep clear,
do you think the Spotsman 500 is up to it?

Powerwise, you should be all set with the 500. My 400 has never had any problems. Only thing is that the sportsman is a lot smaller than a pickup (obviously) so although it can plow deep snow, it can't push back snow banks like a 6000 pound truck can. It could do the road fine as long as you have a bit of space on either side of the road to make the banks. At the beginning of the year, plow way wider than the road. As you get more snow, the banks will gradually fill in the space you left.

With the rubber deflector on the top like I have you can get some speed and throw the snow a bit. The glacier seems well suited for clearing roads and small driveways, but it has a little trouble with larger expanses like parking lots because the snow piles just get so big.

And if you get a blizzard, you may have to plow it a few times during the storm. Dont expect to be able to go out and clear 3 feet of snow off of the road.

It should be alright for you, though. You may want to consider the one-way plow, as it is better suited for roads/long driveways.

Any more questions, just ask.
Tyler

I seem to have one of those machines that everyone that hates Polaris talks about. 2004 Sportsman 600. I have had this bike for a year and only have 475 miles on it. I do a little mudding , but mostly trail ride. Lost the electric fan at 3 months, (warranty would not cover because the fan was dirty), had to replace all 4 wheel bearings at 5 months (once again not covered by warranty). At 9 months the temp sensor switch quit and the fan would not come on. I wired the fan to come on when the key does now. At the same time I have had to replace all tie rod ends. Now my water pump has quit and started leaking. As soon as I can get this back up and going my next purchase will be a "For Sale" sign

Does anyone here have a problem with their bike shifting into 4x4 with the switch in th off position? There was a thread, but I cannot find it.

that still wasn't very nice to say, but that's funny about the mods. That's too bad about your problems, doesn't seem right. Hate to see a for sale sign so early

With the AWD engaging on its own, change your hub oil. That usually solves the problem. If not, take a look inside the hub and make sure everything's ok, make sure the armature plate isn't bent or warped.
