"Green Spring"

I gotta say, in EPI's defense, that the spring WILL do more for you in a 2 stroke than an entire kit in a 4 stroke. There's just that much more to be gained, as the 2 stroke power curve is so weak at low RPM's. I have not formulated much of an opinion on my kit, but it seems to backshift, and respond VERY well, and I can wheelie to a point where I fear going over backwards.

What most of you dont seem to understand is each atv engine makes different horsepower at different rpms, So the "Green spring" will not make all Polais atvs run the same. Just because it is the best for the 400 engine wont make it the best for every Polaris made. You need find the one that is best for your atv. Find someone who can sell you the spring for your engine and you will most likely love it, Put the wrong spring in and you will most likely hate it.

Thanks Bill for the response I will be installing it tonight if the wife dosen't find a hundred other things for me to do. hehe. I will let you guys know what happens. Also just did top end rebuild. I now have wiseco piston and boyseen reeds they made a little difference. It now hangs with the 400EX which is good I think for a 500 pound 4x4.

Holy Hookups!!! Your Sportsman H.O. with EPI clutch will do Wheelies!! My late 2000 SP 500
moves along nicely but it couldn't do a wheelie if its life depended on it! I am headed to the dealer this week for a cam and a carb to make an
"H.O" out of it. It's going to cost about $550
and they say they've done it before. What about the green spring on a Sportsman as compared with
the EPI clutch? any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks, Silly Later,, Fourlix

Clutching is a science.I've been tweeking pol.
snowmobile clutches for over twenty years and
by no means consider myself an expert. Anyone
interested in doing their own fine tuning should
purchase the clutch videos from EPI. They are good
at explaining clutch operation and maintainence.
2 cycles generally have a narrower powerband than
4 cycles and correct clutching on them is critical
for top performance. The primary spring mainly controls engagement rpm's and top end rpm's. While
you may receive positive results from changing only the primary spring it will not beat a well designed complete clutch kit. If you decide to do
you own experimenting get a baseline time with your atv and compare with any changes you make.
Don't be fooled by the seat of the pants feel !!!
