Past threads on this topic suggest buying a genuine OEM Polaris manual over the less expensive after-market brands. The Polaris manuals are much more detailed. Any Polaris dealer can order you one, I believe they cost $45.00. I just ordered one online from:

The correct part number for the 2004 service manual is: 9918802 Just type in this part number and click the "Submit Request" button.
They charge $36. + $5. for shipping. So all-in-all it's about the same price. You can also what eBay for manuals. My understanding is the 2004.5 sportsman models are covered in the 2004 manual. They did not release a seperate manual for the 2004.5 model.

Go to ebay.com and on the search ingine type: polaris service manual, and it will give you many listings, just narrow it down to your yard and model ATV. It might run you about $20 to $35 dollars.
