polaris mis-fire electronic throttle control problem ??
hi everyone
i have a polaris 300 4x4 that keeps almost cutting out and just ticks over but doesn't respond to me opening the throttle
when this happens if i press the start button it jumps back into life and runs ok for a while, it will then cut out again for no apparent reason and just sit at tick over
i have read the haynes manual but can't find any info on the electronic throttle control, i only know it it there because there is a label on the handlebars
can anyone tell me how it works and if it could be the cause of my problem
the atv seems to know when the engine is running as it doesnt re-engage the starter motor when i press start while it is running
any help would be appreciated

Take the cover off the throttle control and pull the boot back off of the cable at the throttle control. When you lightly press the throttle there should be a very slight amount of play before you feel the tension from the throttle return spring. That clearance is only about .025". You adjust it through the collar on the cable housing. Loosen the lock nut and you should be able to turn it in or out to adjust the play.

thanks a lot for the advice
i took the cover off of the handlebar throttle assembly and noticed that one of the wires has broken off from the little block that has the electronic contact
for now i am just going to join together the 2 wires
thanks again

ok so that was a bad idea
joining the wires just cuts the engine
as one of the wires was already disconnected i am not sure if the "ETC" was the problem ?
i am sure that it is electrical though as pressing the start button while the engine is running and stuck at tick over allows the revs to increase with the throttle
