Tie rod ends

Tie rod ends
Was servicing my 2000 Xpedition when I noticed there was quite a little "play" in the tie rod ends (outside end, next to tires). Asked the local dealer and he said you should replace them every 4000 miles or so, but the blankety-blank things cost about $40.00/side just for the outside tie rod ends and that is just for the parts! (I will install myself) I know the manual says to service them when you change oil but the dealer told me not to because that just causes them to collect more dirt. Was just wondering if anyone has had this same problem and if there was a solution or a better way or just figure on replacing them every 4000 miles?

Tie rod ends
Hey, thanks for the info. Got the tie rod ends from our local dealer for half price, $40 for both sides, they are discontinuing Polaris (Long story). The ends are a different style (updated version) and have a bolt thru the middle, looks like a better system to me anyway. Had to reset the toe-in (toe-out actually) after installation and the darn thing drives like it has power steering now. Guess you should check that more often. Thanks again and bcak to the trails!!!!
