I just pick up the machine and the only noise that could be found was the driveshaft. The shaft entrance to the transmission has a grease zert and was bone dry. He said could move the shaft and would have a metal sound but not sure if this is what I'am hearing. He took off the drive shaft and seen rust, So he cleaned it and greased it up with bearing grease.
So, everything else is fine- belt, clutch- and gearing in the transmission. He did all this at no charge to me. Great! I tip him anyway because it was not greased like it should be. I felt it was My problem really!
I did grease this once. But don't recall doing it since the noise developed.
I will be riding the same trails next weekend after the 4th of July and let you know if the noise went away.
Word of advice grease your machine after going in water or mudding trails. So, lets hope this will be the cure and I will be more maint conscience from now on.

Well guys put a few miles on the new bike and it is very impressive, compared to my 2004 400 SP. The power is very noticable the engine to me still has too many rattles but I listened to another 05 500 and it sounds the same. I do have a rear rack vibration. I'm going to go over the bolts and fasteners back there and try to eliminate that sound.

Lift the seat and check the plastic snorkles for the air box and the CVT. I put a piece of foam between them and snap tied them together as was getting a lot of vibration which I thought was engine noise. I found the engine to tick alot when I first got it had the valves adjusted and it still ticks.....
