Is this normal,my 400 SP wasn't this noisey. The engine sounds like she is out of oil

 

Will Kingclear, my 05 500 HO is now in the shop for a similar noise. Trying to find out what is the noise is. Mine is sporatic, start s when i'am on a rough trail and do hard brake turns left or right. Firstthe dealer thought might be the differentials. No all checks good. The EBS system could be kicking in out and so maybe a missing cog from the belt. I will let you know what he finds out later this week.

Really I'm concerned to say the least. I also notice a snapping noise whan I give it a shot of fuel from a standing start. Sounds like a u-joint snapping. I haven't had it out of my yard yet I'm getting concerned

 

My new 400 made a loud grinding noise when I turned left and right. Dealer replaced the front gearcase, didnt fix it. Turns out they put the plastic battery cover under the engine on the frame for transport when they are new, and it was sliding under the driveshaft that goes to the front end. They forgot to put it on the battery when they set it up for me. Probably not your problem, but my 2cents anyway.

 

This is a noise from down in the engine it's self sounds like valves out of adjustments or something

 

My 04.5 is noisey sounds like a grinding/whiring noise was like this the day i bought it dealer told me normal noise it's the straight cut gears you hear other manufactures use a bevel cut gear it's quieter but not as strong or durable
2 friends have 500 04.5 they both make the same noise
still have the dealer look it

 

Well boys............ I can assure you that this "noise" is NOT present on all 2005 500's. I have an '05 SP 500 "LE" and it has a constant deep throaty rumble with absolutely no ticking or cluncking at all, from idle to all RPM's. With that said, don't believe your dealer if he tells you that the "noise" is normal cuz it ain't there on my machine !!!

I'm certainly not telling you what to do, but if it were me, I would INSIST that the "noise" gets fixed immediately and properly or I would demand a new quad. You paid good money for your SP, you shouldn't be hearing an engine that sounds like it's out of oil, that's for dam sure !!!

 

This is a problem I have read about in numerous threads now. My father has a 2004.5 400 and there is a rattly sound that comes from the driveline somewhere while driving at about 30 mph or faster. It is most noticeable when you let up off of the gas...We had the machine back to the dealer and were told that it is normal.....Funny thing is, my 2004 500 HO does not make this sound at all.. I drove my buddy's 2004.5 700 EFI and it kinda has the same rattly noise also....Seems to be a 2004.5 and up problem from what I have seen...Wierd..

 

My 04 500HO was clattering from the get go. I also felt like it was not running at full power, it wouldn’t go over 45mph. I had it in a couple times and they said all was normal. Finally I decided to start going through it to see what I could find. It ended up being the valves were out of adjustment. Its now quieter, smoother, and has power.
