Thick mud is the problem with the belt. Sounds like you might need a low range trans from and Explorer 400.

For better bottom end try putting a White Bros Muffler on it will help.On your belt smoking you cant take a Scrambler into the deep stuff that the Sportsmans go through because you dont have a low gear.On the clutching if you have the cash go for the TEAM roller from HPD tell them what you want and they can set you up with the right set up on it but I dont like their primary clutch it engages too high for my liking.I like lots of low end for tight trails.Check my sig for how my 500 is setup for an idea of what works.I weigh in at 230 so it may be a good setup for you.

I'm 230 lbs too and do mostly hills and jumps. Low end is where it's at for me. Is your yellow primary a stock spring? Give me a general rundown on what swapping in these springs is like. I read the instructions on heelclicker.com but it just tells you about the parts installation, not about what you have to remove from the bike or anything about where these springs even go.

The Polaris yellow primary spring raises the engagment a little over the stock(blue/green) with a lot higher shiftrate giving more rpm on the topend. You have to be careful and use a tach to get your rpm right or you can get the shiftout rpms up past the safe zone of your motor. It took me many hrs of changing springs and weights to get mine where I want it. If you are really interested in the CVT system Aaen makes a tuning manual that explains how it all works and is very helpful.

If you want better performance with a stock 500 Scrambler go with a white or green polaris primary spring(white engages lower than the green but the green will get you a bit more rpms) set the secondary spring at 2-2 and you will be ok and you will think you have a new machine you may loose a little the the top but it will be worth the $20 you spend on a spring.

Hey i recently installed a white primary on my scrambler 500 2005 and i was wondering whats the deal with the secondary?I always hear peoples saying set the secondary at 2-2...How do you do that?2-2 is the stock position of the secondary?

Stock secondary setting is 1-1 on the newer Scramblers 2-2 will get you bettere backshift but cut you a little on topend. You have to take the clutch apart to check and change the settings.
