Default Ignition Problem 2004.5 Sportsman

Need Help... On July 4th weekend I was riding for approx 1 hour and when I stopped for a break and attempted to turn off the engine. Upon turning the key off the engine kept running, even with the key completely removed from the ignition. I then attempted to turn the engine off with the engine kill switch and still nothing. At the end of the ride I had to use the choke to kill the engine and then remove the terminal from the battery because the electronic display was staying on. I've been told that it is either the ignition switch of possibly a wiring problem. I was not riding hard, just cruising at moderate speeds on the day I discovered the problem.

I have taken off the headlight pod and inspected the wires the best I can and doesn't appear to be any problems. My next step was to buy a new ignition switch, but I don't know if I'm heading in the right direction, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the the reply rsking45. I checked my model # and Vin#, it doesn't appear to fall between the specified models listed. However, I'm going to call the dealership tommorrow to make sure.

Does any one else know if a bad ignition switch would cause the problems I listed or is it possibly a actual wiring problem, i.e. loose, corroded, broken etc????
