Default 2004.5 sportsman 500 ?

I'm having a lot of noise coming from the front gear box area. Today i grabbed the two front axels and they are loose feeling. Does this mean the bearings are out or something worse? how much to fix. Both sides are the same. Thanks. Would someone who has a bike like mine see if yours is loose too. Thanks.

Sounds like the front wheel bearings are toast but you might want to check first if the axle is torqued to 70ft/lbs. The 04.5 doesn't have the outer hubs so the bearings must be sealed like the rear ones. Just a matter of pulling the axle out, remove snap ring and knocking the bearing out......

My rear bearings were supposed to be sealed to and I had to replace them. The bearing s are out where it goes into the front gear box. This is a poor design from polaris on the 04's. My fan bearings went, rear wheel bearing and now the front gear box bearings!!!!!! If you all go in water or any mud you will have problems too!

I'm not knocking ploaris. I'm a die hard polaris man but after 4 new polaris' and all 4 have had problems maybe i'm waking up to the fact that they don't hold up as well as the other brands. Even the 05 has has problems. with under 200 miles the belt was chirping and the dealer said it had a bad something in the clutch. He said he has seen it on a few already.
