Which Scrammy?
#1
Given the choice between a 2002 Scrambler 2 stroke, 400, 2WD (new at a dealer) vs. a 2005 new Scrambler 500 4 stroke, 4WD?
which would be a better bet? The 2 stroker is at a pretty good price. Which is faster??
thoughts. Trying to make a decision.

They are actually pretty close in overall speed stock, the 2 stroke being slightly faster. The biggest thing tho is that the 2 stroke is so insane modifiable that if you choose to mod it there won't be a 500 scrambler that can keep up. I have an 02 scrambler X 400 with the full aaen stage 5 performance kit and i have never ridden a faster quad. I would personally go with the 02 400 cuz you can't beat the sound and snap of a 2 stroke!

If you can get the 2-stroke for a nice price, I say go for it...unless you really need a 4x4. I've spent a lot of time on a 99 2-stroke 2wd and my 05 4-stroke 4x4 and, as mentioned, base power feels about the same, just gets there a little quicker with the 2-stroke. The 2-stroke is probably a little lighter as well. If you need a 4x4 though you can't go wrong with a new model. Bottom line is you'll be very happy with either. Just choose what best suits your needs as a rider.

I have both and the 500 is my choice for trails and cruising the 400 is so wild that you have to be on your toes all the time to keep it under control but it is a blast to ride but wears you out faster. As for 4x4 I like the idea of having it there but dont use it all that much unless we are in some bad *** woods and I have to stump jump with it.

there are quite a few who ask this question and I always tell them that if you are planning on keeping it pretty much stock then go with the 500 but if you want to modify the heck out of it then go with the 400. I would prefer the 4wd over the 2wd though. It's nice to have the 4wd to go where the other 2wd sport bikes can't go.
