OOPS!!! AWD question
#11
Nuttie, I think you just released the hounds on yourself. My scrambler does the same thing though barely. With all wheels off the ground in twd the front still spin a bit. Not a lot, I can stop the wheel with my hand without any force. I dont know why though. I just put in new shafts and fluid obviously.

nuttie,
Thanks for the information, I will be sure to get it to my dealer later this week. It has always done it I just never thought anything of it until I was reading a similiar post. Hopefully, It won't cost too much because it is no longer under warranty.
Thanks Again

I replied to the duplicate post but will add my question to this one too. I just got an 04.5 sp500 and noticed that mine does the same thing, awd drive engaging regardless of the switch position. I changed the fluid but it didn't matter. Mine is not under warranty obviously so I'm looking for what I can do myself. What did anybody find out what the problem was?

There are alot of possible things it could be. With mine the dealer tried for about three or four weeks before they discovered it was a plastic piece in the front gearcase. My suggestion to you would be to take it to your dealer and let them deal with it.

Well, as usual, the first thing to try with AWD problems is to do a fluid change. After that, these new gearcases (vs the older hubs) are much more self-contained, so a trip to the dealer might be a good idea. I have heard many people saying that their dealer said that their gearcase became "magnetized" (whether actually referring to the magnetization of a piece like the old armature plates or a simple term for a more complicated, I'm not sure). If this is a factory problem, is it covered even out of warrantee?
Or maybe tell your dealer that it's been doing it since you got it, and either it didn't bother you and has become much worse, or you thought it was a normal side effect of the onDemand awd.
