Hey springtuck, are you saying that your dealer covered it outside of your warranty? As mine has expired I want to know how far I can push the issue.

My personal feeling is, we're paying an a$$load of money for these bikes, the least they could do is keep them on the road for a while. ESPECIALLY something as stupid as this magnetization problem or whatever it is... IMHO, I shouldn't have to be having any issue(s) (aside from normal wear/tear) with a brand new bike, and if I do, they should just fix it... that's good business. If a dealer has to spend a couple of hours (which I doubt they reaaaaly spend) on customer good will, its money well spent.
I'd go park your bike on their doorstep. This is just plain wrong, not to mention a liability to you and yours.

I bought my 400 from a shop rather than my dealer (at the time seemed like a good idea to make connections). But when I bring it in, the dealer often gets polaris to cover mine without asking me my purchase date or VIN (over the phone they say they can probably get it covered). So it's all the dealer, I think.

Seems quite obvious that there is a flaw in these new units. All three of mine have this problem. The dealer said the magnetized thing and changed the metal plate in two of them. The third one needs it also as I believe it is stuck. Problem is that they still slam into AWD whether the switch is on or not. I totally agree that a problem like this really needs to be addressed by Polaris. You know they are aware of the problem. That much money for an atv kinda needs a fix and a recall for these units. If I understand right, the 4.5 was the first model to use these new hubs, so it should be fixed by the factory instead of they denying there is a problem. I just wonder how many people out there have the problem and don't even know it or simply think it is the nature of the unit. Does someone actually have to get hurt or worse before they address this problem?? Oh yeah, if the warranty is out it is pretty expensive to have this, IMHO, temporarily fixed. It's not a fluid problem, but a design problem.

When turning, I had the AWD kick-in and it pulled the handlebars outta my hand... I think they are aware of the problem (in fact probably keeping tabs on our posts) ... where we go from here, I'm not sure. The fix is mostly all about billable hours and how to reimburse the dealers... an expensive proposition when you look at the record number of these bikes they have sold...

Does Polaris watch these boards? I'd imagine they would... I read on one of their ads where they referred the Connection as a good source of Polaris help and information.

I also had a 05 sportsman 700 do it to me. i took it to my dealer 7 times. they replaced the front end twice and changed the electrical 3 times. by this time my waranty was way gone. and it still kicked in whenever it wanted to. so eventually they swapped me out with a new 700 EFI for all the trouble. I havent had this one do it YET!!

Well i cant say that i was an easy customer either!! I was about to drive that thing through there door. At first they said it was suppost to do that. so when i brought it up to them i was in the driveway spinning donuts and it kicked in and about launched me into the bushes!! Then they thought there MIGHT be a problem.

Mine doesnt engage randomly, but after I use awd, I have to back up after putting it in 2wd to get it to disengage. Not a problem as much as an inconvenience. I've changed hub fluid, but it still does it.

I have a nephew that has a 4.5 700 carb and he can do donuts in the snow all day and his doesn't lock up. My yellow one can take off and if the front lifts the front slams in. Then it is stuck in AWD and the steering is hard. I usually have to put it in reverse and gas it three or four times to get it out but the steering still stays hard. Other than that I love the bike. Getting ready to put a team secondary in it as soon as Speedworks help me figure what spring and helix to put in it. Just wish that front end worked as it should. A shame to have such a killer bike with such a silly and pontentially dangerous problem.
