Went to the dealer today and traded in our 02 Xplorer for a 2005 sp500. It was still in the crate, so it'll be ready tomorrow. Can't wait.

About how much are people paying for these these days? I want to make sure I didnt get ripped off like I did with our 400.

i paid 6,688 for my 05 sp500 it was at cost.

Sounds like I did Ok then. We got 2000 for the xplorer (amazing, it is beat to crap, needs about 500 in parts alone [bumpers, plastic, floorboards]) and paid 4500 more for the 500. So it was 6500 w/o the trade in.

we go to pick it up today.

 

i paid 5999.00 otd and mine was in the crate to all they had to do was hook up the battery and check the oil.. took all of 20 minutes while i watched the safty video...

Ours was in the crate, too, that's why I had to wait until today.

I rode it today -- I love it!! So much more powerful than our 400.

My predicament is that I am only 16, and all the quads are really my family's. So whenever we went on rides my dad would (justifiably) want to ride the sportsman (the 400) and I'd get stuck riding the xplorer while he took the sportsman with all my mods through the mud.

So now, the 500 will be "his". And he 400 will still be "ours", but I'm not letting anyone else ride it [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]. I'm not gonna do anything to the 500 just yet, my dad likes things stock, and I'm not gonna argue with him.

In the future, all he wants on it is a winch, a brushguard, a Glacier plow mount. The 26" tires are awesome (although he still thinks replacing the stock 489's on the 400 didn't make sense).

My dad is one of those people who feel that if they pay people to make the ATV's the way they are, why should he change it? Why change tires when the stock ones still have a half inch of tread?
know what I mean?

But I love it, I'll be switching with him a lot from now on [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif[/img] and not have to feel bad about making him ride a 250.
