How to offend a dealer?

.My friend has a buyer"s quote from Southern Powersports and it"s on there web site as well for $5300.00 out the door for a 2005 500HO
thats 300 miles from us here in Grundy Va...We calledLand and Lake Polaris in Abingdon Va and told him what the quote was and asked if he could come close
taking in accordance we would pay some more to not make the trip....He called my friend back calling him a liar about the price and said If we did buy fro Southern
Powersports he wouldnt Perform service nor warranty work...(we didnt ask himto service it)we faxed him the quote from SP and my friend spoke to him again(kevin is his name} and he acknoweleged
recieving it and still wasnt decent enough to make amends for his insult..The only thing I can figure that upset him was the fact that after we knew what we could get one for we also knew how much he was "torching people for the same quad"..
Compettion is a good thing,Polaris needs to put another dealer in a block from this guy"s place.......you know I understand THe small guy"s cant compete with mega dealer
but it cost nothing to be courteous and just say"Sir,I cant beat that deal or even get close"Id respect him for that....My dealer where I live is a class act and would never do such a thing and you know what He"ll probally end up selling my bud the 500HO more money but with respect and kindness...

Overhead costs vary vastly from dealer to dealer
I've worked in dealerships where they almost gave the bike away(low profit) anticipating making the profit from parts sales later down the road as well as getting the customer to purchase thier next vehical there
I've also been in dealerships where msrp is a base number and they make a good profit on the bike
the main difference bieng when there was an "issue" the shop which had charged more for the bike had enough pad in the profit to replace a part or spend some service time on it
the cheaper shop however was done with the customer once they had signed on the dotted line, so if a bike was to lean or the guy wanted some tie-downs because he forgot them they had to pay for them
which is better?
And as far as driving 300miles for a new quad and a deal...be dang carefull I know plenty of people who have gone out of town for the best deal only to find hidden costs in the deal(you know the hole rubberized undercoating BS)and after they traveled that far and had already thrown the great deal in thier local guys face they pay more and just lie about it...you probably know a guy or two like this

Jason, we had the quote in hand with the salesman signature..no hidden agenda, $1000.00 bucks cheaper......
we where looking to split the difference say 4/500.00.....
that isnt really the point of my post..not the price but the arrogance of the dealer..
update:
my friend emailed Polartis about the response he got from this guy by 4:45 edt he got a call from a Polaris rep
who wasnt amused either.......jasin it cost nothing to be cordial thisguy is a jerk period..

Right on the money...if your the guy charging 1000 bucks more you better be the guy with a thousand dollar smile
If you selling at bottom dollar you can have a bottom attitude...looks like the guy lost a sale

wow, that would suck....i have done ALOT of searching for the best price on a new quad...which I am hopes to get soon (I have been saying that for a year or three now...) and I have found that i could have gotten an LE pred for 5950+tax an hour and a half away..and then called the local dealer and told him about it, and they said they would match anything I could find.

Perky, I've dealt with Land & Lake myself before and know how you feel.I don't want to bash them on this site or flame them, but I will say that you're experience with them was about par for the course from what I've seen. The one bad thing that I will say though is that Kevin has ruined the ATV Rodeo at the Washington County Fair.
I'm glad to see someone else from SouthWest Va on the site. Are you planning on going to the Rich Valley Fair ATV Rodeo or the Tazewell ATV Rodeo?
