sounds like water is geting into your airbox. I have a clamp on k&n on my scrammy and have to be careful in the water. When I do suck in a little water it does the same exact thing as yours until I open it up on dry land and clear out the water.

AIR/FILTER right now im running a stock Polaris paper filter (no oil) with a pull over nylon type cover.
Should I be using a foam w/ oil or K&N w/ oil ?????????????

no, that won't fix your problem I just used my clamp on filter as an example since if any water splashes on it it get sucked in the engine and I observe the same symptoms your describing, that's why I thought you were getting water in your airbox.

Is the plug in your airbox drain tube, If it not in there you could be sucking water in there. On the 2004's it's a big red plug in the tube, I imagine it would be the same on yours. The plug is #24 on the parts diagram

----------------------------------UPDATE--------------------------------
I put die electric grease on all connections. I went out and hit a normal size puddle and it happend again. Something is effecting the sprk or ignition I THINK???? It wont start and gets flooded and gas pours from the overflow. after about 5 min it will start but only idle, if you put it in gear and try to ride it dies. After 15 min of trying it will start and run fine.

WHAT THE F____K IS GOING ON ???????????????????????????

HHHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had the same problem with my 2004 sp 400, you need to coat the plug wire with grease or silicon spray easy fix

Hey FireCaptianSteve. Dunno if this is it or not, but I saw a similar issue on another thread, to check the coil. If its located in the same area as my 700EFI (sputtered like yours on one trip, but running okay now - watching it) up under the front left fender. Just get a hose and wet it down... if it happens, then maybe you have a cracked coil.. ? good luck.

I was also told about the rev limmiter. Is that the cluster of wires that plugs into the box next to the radiator?

"Flooded gas pouring out the over flow" I still think you problem is TOO RICH. When you hit the water and steam is sucked in the carb, and rich to begin with, with is what is causing your problem. Go back to page one of this thread and try what I suggested a month ago. What do you have to lose???

Im having a problem sorta like this, I hit a water hole today which came over the floor boards by about 2" and its started to spit and sputter and then died on me, once I got it up outta the water it ran good until we went to take off and at about 30mph it started to spit anf sputter. Now Im home and it idles great, rides great at lower speeds and even at 30mph runs ok but if I hammer down on the throttle it feels like its going to die. It ran great until this hole
