Default My Warn winch has issues...

or, maybe it's me. Out of the 5 times using my winch, 3 times my winch cable jammed. Inevitably, the stupid thing gets wound up on one side then jams. This time, it is really bad. each time, I try very hard to try to evenly winch in too.

This is frustrating and I have to do something. Has anyone used the rope type of cable? Does it do any better?

UNWIND THE CABLE ALL THE WAY OUT THEN IT WILL BE RIGHT.

Normally, yes. This thing is sooo caught up, I can't get it to freespool or wind out.

The reason the thing goes out when you press in is because you have the wires crossed somwhere. I have had the same prob with mine. It is a simple fix. As for the guy who has the winch issue, if you camt get it to unravel, hook it up to somthing, put the quad in reverse, and push the out button on the winch to let cable out and hopefully when you give the quad gas it will start to come out.

When you first installed it, did you stretch the cable? Hook up to something and let out all the cable (when you can) and back up (assuming it's on the front). Found that on either Warn or Ramsey's site in guide to winching. Wouldn't have thought of it, but it does make sense. If you've only let out say 20 feet, it may have stretched (not talking inches, just enough to matter) and could cause problems when you roll it back up.

Let your cable all the way out and press the in button. If your cable was comming off the top of the spool, it will change to the bottom. If it was comming off the bottom it will change to the top.
When winching watch the cable and make sure it dosen't spool on one side, if it dose stop winching let some cable out and spool it in even then winch again.
After useing my winch when I get home I unspool the cable hook it to my wifes quad with the parking brake on. Winch her quad in and spool my cable on evenly with some pressure. This keeps the cable tight and will dry any moisture that may have gotten in the winch motor.
