This is the prices here in the Dubai, United Arab Emirates:
US$1.29 per Imperial Gallon (4 Liters) 90 octane
US$1.42 per Imperial Gallon 93 octane
As mentioned above, other parts of the world pay lots more per gallon of gas than the US due to the taxes imposed by their country, county, state. For instance, I am from North Carolina, when I came home this summer for vacation, the tax per gallon of gas was 42.7 cents (state and federal included). I work with a lot of Brits and they pay 2X's that in tax per liter, or more.
Chris
For those that want to put more blame on GWB, when gas hits $3+per gallon, the tax will still be 42.7 cents per gallon, and when it drops, yep, the tax will still be 42.7 cents per gallon. It is all supply and demand.

In a capitalist society, prices are based on what the market will bear. There isn't anyone to get pissed at. I take that back. I am pissed at the various governmental agencies that tax the crap out of gas. I am pissed at the limp wristed politicians that back down against the environmentalist whackos. We should have been exploring for domestic sources of oil, we should have been building additional refineries, and we should not let the politics of a VERY SMALL group controll our economic development.
The oil producing nations have a limited resource that WILL go away eventually. They have done a fairly good job of keeping prices reasonable since the early 80s. Demand has increased and prices go up. It is overdue, not because I want it high, but because it has been artificially low for a long time. In a way, the low prices of the past 22 years have cursed us. We have done NOTHING to develop our own resources plus, the consumers have not demended more fuel efficient vehicles in high enough numbers.
Like I said, no one supports higher prices. But, if you sold widgets, you would try and get the highest amount for your widgets. Add to the fact that your raw materials aren't renewable, and you would want to make your money while you could. OPEC knows where their bread is buttered. They don't want to kill the world economy, but there are limits. If there was more competition from say....US, they would be kept in check even more!!

THERE TAKING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY FROM YOU. doesnt that **** you off. im not asking for your pitty are no one elses. i think all hard working americans no matter how much money they make should be upset about these gas prices. just because you make enough money to afford it dosent give them the right to raise the gas prices. come on think about its your money. you might not mind giving it to them. i do.

Are you kidding me??? Who in hell said they "supported" higher gas prices? Man, I get 13.4 MPG on average. I was simply stating fact. No one wants to spend more money than needed on gas. I just have a problem with people wanting pitty.
I do have the same attitude as mywife'squad. I will just make more money. That is the cool thing about this country.
The funny thing is, this is no surprise at all. ALL of the indicators have shown that gas prices were going to rise for 15 years. I would absolutely expect $3.00 a gallon fairly soon. It will likely stay that way, so people should prepare. I am considering an econobox because I drive as much as 25k miles a year. Do the math...

Hey Rick, you better by some new shoes before they raise the price on those. Sounds like you're gonna wear out a couple of pairs.

Great points. Gas is far more expensive in Europe where regulation and taxation is extreme.
But (no pun intended), you have got to change that avatar It throws me off everytime I read your posts

Interesting thread. Hey just a couple things I'd like to throw out there
1) I remember after 9/11 (2001), for at least a few months, gas dropped a lot. I thought for a while there it would go UNDER $1/gallon as I remember paying like $1.08. Wonder what caused that?
2) Somebody mentioned parking their F350 here. There is a guy here at work that has a 65 Lincoln and said with this gas price, it will not see the road again. But think of it this way, if you go 15 miles, it cost you maybe an extra 60 cents only. So keep driving it if you like it. Don't mis-understand me though, I don't like paying an extra $15 to fill-up either.
3) Gas prices in other countries..............is so high because they tax the heck out of it to support their huge social programs. I'll pay $3/gallon if I get completely free medical benefits and other perks

Tax's on each liter .26 cents
The rest goes directly to the oil companies
So how do you relate free health care to gas taxes.
The gas tax is for road repair only.
Perhaps you should check your source's because their wrong.
