anyone still messing with the comet primary clutch?
#1
I was wondering if anyone ever got it prefect. I kinda gave up on mine,I just left it where it would work ok,but, it never ended up being faster in anyway then the stock primary clutch.
Im in the middle of making my scrammy a drag, dune atv and want to know what springs to use and weights.right now i have a stock primary and a hpd blue spring with 10-56 weights, my comet has a silver spring and s55 weights.
who is using what, with a 400 hpd race kit 15.5 cool head and a ts99 team secondary. anyone close to having this set up with a comet let me know your out come.
thanks
matt
p.s
test rides are out of the question right now because of my broken wrist, this is why i want the info from who ever has this clutch ,,so i have a starting point for when i can ride.

fiximatt,i'll not tell you my clutch secrets, but i gave up on the comet
long time ago,HPD full race 15.5 400,but i don't run a team secondary at all,i use primary sled spring tough, titanium spring from hot seat exemple
do run very good on those little clutch,i found the HPD spring isn't stiff enough to loead the engine with good rpm on top,i don't run
polaris weights anymore too,i only use thundershift cam arm weights, that will not help your setup in any ways anymore so...
the comet was not a ready to ship unit from what i've tested and seen...

ya really!! sure seen that way. how about no one knows!! everyone gave up i guess or everyone is really keeping secrets. if so what a bunch of bull. I've used my comet for awhile and used the silver spring and s55 and 10-56 it worked but when i set it up i wasn't using my scram for drags i was cross country racing.totaly different clutch set up. i also shimmed the clutch for a early engagement.
oh well just seeing if anyone was using it for drag racing and if they would be kind enough to help out.i guess i'll have to figure it out on my own when i get better.

Well I don't know if my setup will help you any but I've used the HPD violet primary with the 10-56 weights and it works really good. So does the HPD blue with s55. I'm running the stock helix and that's about it. I'm running 12:1 compression and it will outrun pipe/jetted/cam modded 450's. It really gets off the line real good. Another spring to consider is the new Almond spring by HPD. I don't exclusively drag race so I don't really know all the ins and outs of clutching. My .02.

i just mean it doesn't work on a race engine,i got the stock primary
more fine tuned anyway better.

well i'm no d0rk, i'll figure it out and then i'll tell everyone. I think i'll contact Olva Aaen , last time I talked with him he said something about machining the shives so they close farther in. if that close in more then the belt will travel higher on the clutch which means more top end speed.i

that what i was trying to mean a few posts back,if you need to grind
or work on the comet than it wasn't a ready to ship unit as i told
some days ago,i known the belt fully climb on TOP on my stock unit tough...

yes but the stock clutch is only about 6 1/2 inches for thebelt to climb . the comet(if machined will climb ti 7 1/2. 1 inch is alot i'm sure. but we have to machine it so it can get there. It is a crime for comet to avertise this clutch as better and faster because it's not.as a matter of fact without machining the belt doesn't even travel as high as a stock one does, which means it has less top end speed.
