pred perfromance vs raptor performance
#1
i am seriously considering buying a bigger 4 wheeler but i have limited my choices to the raptor 660 or the predator.
how does a raptor 660 perform against the predator i have ridden both bikes and i think the predator is not as tipsy as the raptor but i found the raptor to have more torque. i would like to know what people think of the 2 bikes
i also understand that the pred does have some flaws and problems but so does the raptor but can someone also tell me what the predators flaws are

You should also post this in the yamaha forum. Most of the folks in here are going to be Polaris guys (and gals) and you may only get one side of the story. Of course it will be the right side of the story, but enough about that.
So many things have to answered before anyone can intelligently respond to you like:
Are you buying new or used?
What kind of riding go you do?
Are you the kind of guy that like to tinker, or will it stay in a stock configuration?
Obviously, I'm biased because I bought the Preddy, but I did that because I think it's a better machine for me. Power and speed wise, they are very close stock. Handling is in favor of the Predator. But then again, it depends on what kind of riding you do.

We have both quads, I like them both. They each have their own applications they excel at.
For sheer "Holy Sh*t, hold on to your hat" power, go with the raptor. It handles good, looks nice and is pretty easy to mod. Pops up like toast with out any effort at all, if you like to wheelie that's a big plus. For wide open areas it's great.
The Predator on the other hand is by far the smoothest quad I have ever ridden(which is why it's mine). It's the Caddy of quads as far as the smooth ride goes. And when push comes to shove, it has the power. It's not as evident as the Raptor, possibly because it's so easy to handle that you don't get that power jolt, again, it's just sooooo smooth. Makes trail riding a pleasure.
I took one lap on my son's Z400 the other day and immediatly got off and said "hell with that, gimme my preddy back". Not knocking the Z, but I'm just too spoiled by my Predator.
Either way you go, you'll be getting a good quad.

1) im not to sure on new or used but most likely a mint condition used
2) i like to mod not big mods but i will probably eventually be putting pipe, jet kit, and after market airbox but other then that ill probably wont mod any more
3) i will be riding in places like paragon pennsylvania witch is deep trails rocky steep hills etc. i like to hit jumps when i rode the raptor i hit a jump and bottomed the raptor out pretty bad. im not sure if the predator has better suspension
a kid i know is selling an 04 predator mint condition not even 20 hrs it just sits in his garage ( has to manny toys to ride his pred.)
he is asking 3,800 do you guys think i should go for it?

Ive got a raptor and i ride strictly trails and logging roads and i love it. Now i cant say theres nothing i would change cause that would be a lie, it is a little tippy, and likes to wheelie, other than that i have no complaints. Im even looking at a predator right now to replace the rappy as my trail quad, and try to start duning with my raptor. The raptor has more than enough power for the trails, but not enough handling, therefore id be willing to sacrifice a little power in exchange for a better handling quad. JMO, i also like the fact that the predator is a dual cam setup, which lets me revv lot more in the trails.

Based on what you're saying, I'd lean toward the preddy then. If you were big into engine mods and just flat out speed freak, I'd say the raptor. Sounds like your kind of riding suspension is going to be a huge deal and the preddy is awesome in that department.
Like I said earlier though, be fair and post in the Yamaha section also. See what they come back with because that will be what they are riding. Most of them will probably point you to the 700R, that thing is supposed to be SWEEEEEET.

If you know the guy and know he has taken care of the bike, done the maintenance, not beat the chit out of it, etc, that's not a bad deal at all.
Jump on eBay and see what they are selling for there, then add some shipping and hassle fees you won't have to deal with buying it from a buddy. If it still looks like a good deal, which I think it would, go for it...

If the 04 is in the shape you say it's in, then that is a good deal. The 04 are solid and the bugs were worked out from the 03. My brother has a 04 and has a good 125-150 hrs on it and the only thing so far that he needed to replace are a few sets of brake pads, and a chain roller. He did brake his frame, but Polaris gave him a new one and it has not broke with allmost 80 hrs on it. He's raced it in 5 GNCC races so it has been used. But has been very solid.
