Ok, let me see if I understand this. You're saying that your Scrambler will go 70 mph stock? Just out of curiosity, will your Scrambler beat a 400EX? One of my riding buddies runs a 500 Scrambler. He's running and AAEN aggressive clutch kit, White Brothers slip-on, and a few other mods - the thing really screams, but he still can't pass my EX with a WB slip-on. There isn't a night and day difference, but I can definitely pass him on the top. I know for a fact that my EX will NOT go 70 mph. I am assuming that his modified 500 would beat a stock 400 Scrambler. Based on this, I don't understand how your 400 Scrambler could go 70 mph.

I want to make it clear that I'm not a Honda rider trying to start and arguement in the Polaris forum, I'm just trying to understand how a stock Scrambler can run at 70 mph. From what I know of ATV's, I just don't see it happenning. I could be wrong though.

I have no clue what my top speed is and don't really care. The high speed stability of my sport is not one of it's strenghts. It's fast enough, but top speed runs rarley present themselves.I think the 400ex is an excellent sleeper quad,Stock ones and mildly modded ones I can take in a DRAG ONLY,but some are wickedly quick!!I've run wide open a few times and the engines stays at the same rpm for a while and then it starts to climb again,it is wierd.

Top speed on my 99 Scrambler from my GPS was 59 MPH my 99 Sportsman on my GPS was 64 MPH. I now have 2 friends with 400EX and one with a 300EX when I race them with my Scrambler who ever gets the jump wins we have never raced faster than 50 MPH so I am not sure who would win over 50 MPH racing up hill in the sand my Scrambler will leave the 400EX in the dust but I think that is because of the 4 wheel drive. I also ride with a friend that has 2 Raptors and a highly modified banshee and one friend who has a DS 650 the 400EX and the Scrambler get eaten alive by these quads the race is always over by the time someone says go.

The first thing people need to do is not believe a stock speedo until you've checked it with radar, or GPS. My race-mod+ will do 72 on GPS. That's with a 34 tooth rear sprocket. If you want to go faster, just change the sprocket...you'll need to shorten the chain also.
Tomcat, I've ridden many times in WI with only one ticket...that's another story (avoid Scott Thiede's area west of Black River Falls) Anyone looking to step up to the HPD race pipe, get the $19.99 quieting kit, simple clamps and kevlar strips. For a silencer, I just picked up the new Hot Seat spark arrestor unit, I'll post DB readings in the next couple of days. The HPD "quiet" unit just doesn't quite get down far enough, and there's no spark arrestor. Is this exhaust thing new this year?

Ken, thanks for adding the correct info for the 400 2x4's. We ran 2 different bikes at our 1000ft drag strip locally. my wife's 2001 scrambler with only a trail pipe and clutching with stock gearing would only do 66mph top speed. My 99 sport with 14-36 gearing with race pipe setup would only do 72mph top speed. Many people think their bikes will go ALOT faster than they actually will. A true calibrated radar or GPS is the only way. The dragstrip calculates speed by timing between 2 points (60 ft) and figuring it like that. It is very accurate. Thought I might throw in my 2 cents. TomCat,
I have a place just north of Spooner on Hwy F in the town of chicog. It would be nice if the town of chicog would let us ride on town roads. I think the only one they will let you ride on right now is Bald Eagle Drive.
