Default QUAD Magazine V-Twin 4x4 Shootout

I just the October 2005 issue of QUAD Magazine that featured a V-Twin 4x4 shootout. The results were as follows:

SUSPENSION:

1. SP800
2. BOMB800
3. AC V2
4. BF750
5. P700

STEERING:

1. BOMB800
2. AC V2
3. SP800
4. P700
5. BF750

BRAKING:

1. SP800
2. BOMB800
3. AC V2
4. BF750
5. P700

OVERALL FEEL: (EDITORS ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS A SUBJECTIVE CATEGORY)

1. BOMB800
2. SP800
3. BF750
4. P700 and AC V2 TIED

POWER:

1. BOMB800
2. SP800
3. BF750
4. P700
5. AC V2

FIT AND FINISH:

1. P700 and BF750 TIE
2. SP800 and BOMB800 TIE
3. AC V2

OVERALL PICKS:

1. BOMB800
2. SP800
3. BF750
4. AC V2
5. P700

I thought the article was excellent. I agreed with most of everything that was written. I know MANY BF owners will get on here and bash the power results. However, whenever I got both of my BF's they were rather doggy until they were broken in, obviously that was the case with the test units.

I also appreciated the magazine not including the other big-bores, namely the KQ, Rincon and the Grizzly. Since the advent of the truly big-bores, the aforementioned quads just don't compare and aren't even the same class anymore. They now need to reclassified as mini big bores or jr. big bores. The AC V2 shouldn't have been included in the test for the same reason. Another effect of leaving out Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha is that doing this will put pressure on the those manufacturers to step up and catch up.

The magazine called the SP800 and BOMB800 the two best utility machines available today and said you couldn't go wrong with either one. They said that the BOMB800 was the winner, or number 1, and that the SP800 was 1.5, because of how close the contest was between the two.

If you want any other details of the article, just ask, there's plenty more.....

I just got my mag today and just glanced through it. It looked like a great shootout. The BF guys will be all over this one.

Good article, very subjective. The AC 650 and P700 shouldn't have been included. No longer consided big-bore in my book.

Well i dont beleive these guys actually ride these machines. Ill tell ya a story.Went riding with a new BOMB 800 and 400 HO.NOT just trail riding rock crawling and muddin. A 2 mile climb to the top of the mountain. Yeas the bomb are light but do they ever flip as well. That visco lock system is like the old Yamahahahs, slip and try to grip. My buddies beat them selves up trying to keep those bombs straight on a climb left to right and back and forth. One incident we had 2 guys on the front of 400 ho to climb a rock face and that sucker just spun and spun on one tire and no turning on the other then she would grab and throw the power to the other wheel and the other would stop turning not at all what the articles said the NEW system would do. BAD!!!!!
The poo-laris as some bomb owners would say walked up and over anything that was put in front of then. If you want a wheelie machine then the the new 800 BOMB is your new toy .But dont take it on a technical trail ride as you will need an ambulance to take you home very unsafe for real riding. Stay in the feilds and your back yards with those machines because they won't rip up your grass . lol
HEY drivem before you buy em and dont listen to those marketing goofs. They have no clue about serious riding
Stay with the polaris they are still the best mudding, climbing quad avaiable

Actually, The Kingquad has a bigger bore than any of the above mentioned quads. Maybe they would be better named as "open class twins?"
