Polaris reliability
#21
i have a 97 explorer with 6000 miles and the only thing that i've had to fix that wasn't my own fault was the chain in the tranny getting stretched out and the sprockets it goes around worn off from riding it that way before i realised what it was. and the hub seals occassionally leaking. but as for the hub seals my dealer told me before you replace one take the hub apart and clean the seal and they will stop leaking so i tried it and sure enough i've only replaced one. the only other thing i don't like about mine is it only takes spinning the belt one time to burn them up. i just switched to the gates kevlar belt but haven't smoked it yet to see if it can withstand one time. this could just be my inability to realise when it's buried to the point where it's gonna slip.

I think just by looking at all the forums on the web if you go into the polaris section there is always a ton of "How to fix" compared to other quads. Maybe Polaris is like Harley Davidson's, they brake more because they are ridden alot more. I think by far Polaris biggest problems are there boots\cv joints. All models that have them tend to break and rip. I think alot of that is due to the weight of the vehicle causing more tension on the joints compared to others.

From the rides ive been on with polaris, they are not really reliable. They have broken both times. But, its funny, my buddy who makes fun of polaris has an outy that in 600 miles has blown a strut, bad vr, and carb probs. haha, go figure.

I am not sure if this is true, but i have heard that polaris has very low reliability. I havent had any problems with mine (yet) but i have read that in quite a few places. want to hear your guys opinions.

Hey Bionic, your dealer still not standing behind your quad? I still don't think they lobbied Polaris to warrenty your problems. Polaris quads are a lot of fun; I hope you get your troubles resolved so you can experience that. I would contact your area Polaris rep and calmly explain your situation and see if he can help. Calling a Polaris will probably not do you any good, but any rep wanting something done can get it done.

1. Ran like doo doo until warmed up. A carb upgrade was done.
2. Carb bracket mounting rubber bushings came loose twice.
3. Died on trail 3 weeks ago was overheating. The fusible link off battery had blown.
4. Wore hole in top radiator hose from rubbing against frame. After looking close at their hose, wiring routing I see ALOT of room for improvement.
5. Does overheat when mudding sometimes, last w/e boiled over. Found mud caked in behind radiator. I always pressure wash it when I get back, take plastics off etc.Took out and cleaned radiator well. Hope helps.
I have had no trouble with CV joints or boots. Have 1600 miles on it, use to pull trees, plow in winter & have fun.
This is my third Polaris. Would I buy another.... Have been checking around but no other machine has the features I want. So will see.
