I have a 00 sportsman and the only trouble I've had is the cheap break pads (replaced 2X) and I smoked a belt.
Oh... I also totaled it by hitting that tree, but I bought it back from the insurance co. and it runs as strong as ever.
I'd buy another Polaris if they made what I wanted.

Mine was always fairly reliable. The only problems I had on my '98 was a bad thermostat/fan switch and leaky hub seals, which was fixed w/ new seals. Nothing big or costly.

my 2000 scrabmbler was very reliable until I started riding it! now its nickel ($50) and diming ($100) to death. I rode it 50 hours this year so far and spent $800 in parts. Its all stock. My predator so far I have 60 hours on it and nothing wrong at all just a lot of oil changes!

If you think that is true you should come here , I have seen 3 yamaha yfz 450's blow there engine on the trail and in the pits, i'v seen two honda go down ,one had top end problems and the other blew his crank bearings. seen 1 suzuki go down ,do to a broken timing chain. These are all guy's I ride with and I've heard that these problem they had are common.Yamaha and honda keeps these problems quite as does dirtwheels and other mags. I have yet to see a predator being pulled by another quad. Even when i blew my clutch basket(hinson defect) I made it home on the preds own power.Even my scrammy had a better track record and it is modded to hell,It always makes it home.I can't even tell you howmany times my scrammy towed home my buddy's yamaha Craptor 660.
I think polaris has good reliability ALSO YOU NEED TO STOP READING THE YAMAHA/HONDA FORUMS THOSE GUYS REALLY DISTORT THE FACTS.

Rear axle bearings and rear brake pads and a belt and cover on my 99 scrammy. All due to the pevious owners lack of maintanance I believe. Since my maintanance only brake pads and needle/seat o-ring and fluid changes. About the same as my honda 250x, pads front and rear, chain and sprockets, clutch, rear axle and swingarm bearings. No weird carb problems though.

If you own a Polaris you must be willing to accept the fact that there are some things that tend to wear out much faster on them that other brand quads.

ECM smoked in the first 30 hours, but other than that things have been alright.
