Default Polaris reliability

i have a 97 explorer with 6000 miles and the only thing that i've had to fix that wasn't my own fault was the chain in the tranny getting stretched out and the sprockets it goes around worn off from riding it that way before i realised what it was. and the hub seals occassionally leaking. but as for the hub seals my dealer told me before you replace one take the hub apart and clean the seal and they will stop leaking so i tried it and sure enough i've only replaced one. the only other thing i don't like about mine is it only takes spinning the belt one time to burn them up. i just switched to the gates kevlar belt but haven't smoked it yet to see if it can withstand one time. this could just be my inability to realise when it's buried to the point where it's gonna slip.

I think just by looking at all the forums on the web if you go into the polaris section there is always a ton of "How to fix" compared to other quads. Maybe Polaris is like Harley Davidson's, they brake more because they are ridden alot more. I think by far Polaris biggest problems are there boots\cv joints. All models that have them tend to break and rip. I think alot of that is due to the weight of the vehicle causing more tension on the joints compared to others.

See your always going to have stories of how a certain manufactures machine was not reliable, I'm not argueing this quote and I believe it is probaly true, but up here we all grown when we here there will be Kawasaki's joining our trips. Accept for a friend of mine's 650 V-twin all the other Kawasaki's have been a real headache on our trips. A 2005 750 Brute has to be towed a lot. A 2004 700 Kawasaki same thing and a 2005 360 has had a lot of trouble. The Polaris Yamaha and Honda guys up here all agree on this

Why, you already bought one? Mines JUNK, 800 miles and a boatload of problems. The line about Polaris correcting their problems and having any concern is funny. They could care less, they are going backward on design with grease fitting removal and the same plastic bushings left to wear out . My upper steering bushing has begun squeaking and increased the steering effort. It's pathetic. They must have a pill some of the guys here take to make you love em' .Spyder was on here saying his new 800" was a 800 lb. worthless piece of sh!#" Now he's back defending it with" no problems so far" Come on guys. They have some of the best ideas that all the other brands copy, but the other brands take their ideas and make them better and more reliable for the consumer. I believe they have the best ride and i like their 4x4 design better than the others, but in our group, the Polaris gets worked on by far the most...........................No, wait, I've changed my mind .It's just as reliable as the others, if you don't like it get out of this forum....... There, that will save the next post from being written.JK

Hey Bionic, your dealer still not standing behind your quad? I still don't think they lobbied Polaris to warrenty your problems. Polaris quads are a lot of fun; I hope you get your troubles resolved so you can experience that. I would contact your area Polaris rep and calmly explain your situation and see if he can help. Calling a Polaris will probably not do you any good, but any rep wanting something done can get it done.

2000 Xpress 300 - hates batteries
2000 Sportsman 500 Remington - complete piece of junk

It was enough to make a die hard polaris fan buy ski-doo sleds.

1. Ran like doo doo until warmed up. A carb upgrade was done.
2. Carb bracket mounting rubber bushings came loose twice.
3. Died on trail 3 weeks ago was overheating. The fusible link off battery had blown.
4. Wore hole in top radiator hose from rubbing against frame. After looking close at their hose, wiring routing I see ALOT of room for improvement.
5. Does overheat when mudding sometimes, last w/e boiled over. Found mud caked in behind radiator. I always pressure wash it when I get back, take plastics off etc.Took out and cleaned radiator well. Hope helps.

I have had no trouble with CV joints or boots. Have 1600 miles on it, use to pull trees, plow in winter & have fun.
This is my third Polaris. Would I buy another.... Have been checking around but no other machine has the features I want. So will see.

I've owned six Polaris ATV's and the worst problem I've had was a worn needle and seat on my 02 700 with 2500miles on it! Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe I don't beat on my stuff as much as others.
