Big bore ATV pull results (suprising)
#1
First I want to start off and state that I am not brand loyal. I filmed it also but I only have dial up so it would take too long to download, but I can tell everyone what the outcome was. It was awesome as I've never seen a Pull where every Big Bore was there.
Polaris 800
Bombardier 800
Kawi Brute Force 750
Kawi Prairie 700
Suzuki King Quad 700
2 Polaris 700's
Yamaha Grizzly 660
AC 650
Kawi Brut Force 650
Okay, first off, everyone thought the new BOMB would rock, well it was a JOKE along with the rest of them except 1. All the machines were pulling
4450.00 LBS on the SLED, I was amazed they would pull that weight alone. Instead of posting the exact distance I'll give the average as I'd have to go and watch the video again to see exact pulls. But they were all withing 2 feet of each other except the WINNER.

ALL PULLED 75-80 FEET MAX
King Quad pulled 70 FEET MAX, NO Bottom end power, lags for some reason. So bad that guys girlfriend was yelling at him to make sure it was in LOW on second PULL, he was pissed as it was. Even the 660 grizzly did better.
The CLEAR winner was the Polaris SPortsman 800 EFI, Full Pull 125 FEET
Now the Polaris did go first, so people started commenting, so I went over to the lad as I knew him and told him, no problem he had to run it again as his dad had ran it the first time and it was his turn. He also did a FULL PULL 125 feet.
Now there was a tie between Father and Son, so they had to go head to head to see who would win. They added weight on the foot of the sled the part that has the skid on it.
Father goes first and gets a FULL PUll again, but this time barley.
Son goes and hesitated off the line for a split second and LOST, got only 123 Feet. BTW it was the same bike they were using, just different drivers. Father won the first prize.
I couldn't believe the 800 Polaris was pulling an average of 50 FEET more then eveyone else, and its on film. And for those who will say the Polaris is much heavier, all the machines had equal weight as they had sand bags on them to make sure.
I tell ya one thing, you can see the POWER on the bottom end, when he'd take off the sled would be dragging quick.
I thought the BOMB would of done better as it had the same STOCK tires as the Polaris, and the KAWI had big horns on it, which should of helped it pull as there a good tire for that kind of thing but it did nothing.
Congrats Polaris, you sold a few machines that night.

Even with the stock weight difference between Polaris and the Jap models, that isn't enough to make that big of a difference in the pull. However, low end torque is as the polaris have. Besides one of the biggest things that cause Polaris to weigh a little more is the larger stock tires, as opposed to the cheap A$$ tires most other manufacturers put on theirs. Polaris also puts a little heavier under carriage parts like tire rods, A-arms, etc. than most other manufacturers. So, by the time you buy a Suzuki and upgrade it to be equal to a polaris, as most people do, you have a bike just as heavy, and then it's not quite as fast as it was.

Good read.
I'm not surprised at all other than i would have expected a better showing from the bomb and the KQ. The KQ with the large single cylinder was said to have great low end and torque.
I think this says a lot for the polaris AWD system along with the awsome power of the 800.

They all weighed the same, as they added sand bags to the machines that needed it. The suzuki was the the most disapointing, a friend of mine even said eh tried one at a dealer and found it was missing in the bottom end, lack of power, then he said in the mid range it picked up good. So at a pull it is low range power you need and the King obviously does not have it.
Visco lock did well the 4 wheels were rocking, just couldn't pull the weight out of the hole like the Polaris.
The other 700 carbs did okay, about 95 feet roughly but to the 800 it was night and day.

I help to organize and run atv pulls here locally (about 4 per year) as well as having competed in many of them. One variable that you forgot to meantion is the rider. I have seen several people enter the same quad in the same pull with dramatically different results. I am not brand loyal either but if the Suzuki's bottom end lag was the problem then I find it hard to believe this is why it didn't pull further. Most experienced pullers will start out slow anyway to get the sled moving and then pour on the throttle to get the speed up toward the end. If you gun it from the start then you are going to be spinning and not moving much and put yourself at a traction dissadvantage immediately. I do not disagree that the results are what you have stated but one question that comes to mind is, were they all still spinning their tires before they were stopped? If so then power is not the problem but possible rider error, traction, or weight is the issue. ATV pulls are alot of fun for the whole family but I don't believe they are a true measure of an atv's power unless you are dealing with weights so heavy that they stop the atv's tire rotation altogether. The the last man turning them wins. This is just my 2cents but I have participated and ran many of these events and I am speaking from experience. I have seen Kawasaki BF's outpulled by Grizzlies and I know stock -to- stock who has the most power.
