Default Best winch for sportsman 700

I am wanting to put a new winch on my 05 sportsman 700 efi, and i am wandering if a 2500 lb. winch would be enough winch, or if I need to just go ahead and buy the 3000 lb winch?

Warn 2.5 ci does the job perfect. Been there, done that.

I have the Warn 2500ci on both my SP700 and SP400. Haven't used the one on the 700 yet, but have used the 400's MANY times (I like mud). Never had a problem pulling me or any other ATV out of the thick stuff.

Well I appreciate the opinions guys, I guess I will go with the 2.5 lb warn and save myself about a hundred bucks.

I second the recommendation to check out EBay. I got my Ramsey ATV 3000 lb winch for $319.00 including shipping on EBay from a dealer called "Neathery"........excellent experience and great deal. Everything complete with roller fairlead, contactor, rocker switch and all wiring.

This winch has proven itself under some very serious loading. The thing with the Ramsey is that it draws less amperage under heavy load. To me this is important as the amperage draw is MAJOR on these things when loaded up (and as such is taxing on the machines battery/charging system).......check it out. I'm very pleased with my Ramsey and highly recommend it. I found in my research it is comparable to the Warn units in terms of quality, draws less amperage under heavy load and generally costs a bit less. Ramsey is a major player in the entire winch industry.

Also, you may want to check KFI Fabricating for your winch mount. I used their mount for my machine and think it's much better that the standard Polaris design. They are also sold on EBay and I think the pricing is approx $38.00 + $10.00 shipping.

Good Luck, Bob

not sure what you will use the winch for but warn makes a kit for the Polaris. fits all 2005 Sportsmans 2.5 # is 2875309 or 2875308 for the 3.0. ive been happy with the warn, this is my second warn on second Polaris. dosent get used alot but there when you need it. the warn with the part numbers there come with everthing you need to mount it including the mount. i installed both of mine and the 2005 was alot nicer setup and easy install.
