2002 Sportsman 700 Twin Squeal/whistle
#1
I have read quite a few posts on the Sportsmans about various noises, but I can't find anything that matches up with mine. My machine has about 600 miles on it and has been running well for the first 20 hours I have put on it since buying it. It was parked in my backyard for about a week, I started it up and once it warmed up, I would get a slight squeal/whistle from the waterpump area, and there were a few drips of antifreeze coming out the weep hole on the pump so I figured some seals were gone.
Dealer confirmed the seals were gone and replaced all the seals, including the one behind the flywheel (which they said they have never seen leak before, but mine was leaking). Pick up the machine at the dealer and while I'm loading it I can hear the squeal again. The squeal is very slight. Only does it once the machine warms up after a minute or two. It does it in neutral, park, and in gear under no load, only after blipping the throttle slightly and it seems to be in the area of the water pump. You can't hear it once the engine goes under load (in gear). The dealer listened to it and he told me it was intake noise and normal on the 700's. Does this sound right? It definitely was not there when I bought the machine.
