Default Adding Lights to the Sprotsman or Scrambler 90

Has anyone added headlights to replace the fake ones on one of these ATVs? I have one of each (2000 models) and I was wondering what it would take, i.e., is the battery strong enough to power them, how would they be hooked in, etc...

Any help would be great!

From what I was told when I had a Sportsman 90 is that the charging systems on these quads are not designed to handle anything extra added on. The output is very low and any additional draw would be pulled from the battery drawing it down fairly fast. Check your owners manual, it should show the output in the specefication section.

Is there anyway to upgrade the charging system?

Default Adding Lights to the Sprotsman or Scrambler 90

I have added lights to my 2 son's atvs about 3 years ago and I have not had any problems with the way I did it yet. They are 01 Polaris 90's, a Scrambler and a Sportsman. There is two (20 watt) resistors under the front right fender that I removed and installed a 35 watt headlight and hooked up the tail light(already there, wire also) in the resistors place. Lights are on anytime the ATV is running(which is what I want anyway), no on/off switch, so the charging system is getting the same load as with the resistors. I first tried just adding a head light but the charging sytem couldn't handle it, I was all the way done to a #1156 bulb (car back up light bulb) before the charging system could at least maintain battery voltage at high RPM(no good). I don't remember the wire color that I tied into, but it was at the resistor wiring were I made my connections and the lights work great. If you have a service manual for your machine, in the back you will find the wiring diagram.
I was able to find a 35 watt light that fit in the upper headlight pod of the sportsman and a 35 watt light that fit in place of the fake headlight on the scrambler to make it look like a factory system.

The 2006 models now have daytime running lights. I believe someone said that they run about $64. They replace the fake fog lights on the front. You can get them from your polaris dealer. I would have liked to have had them. But I just dont want to pay $64 for them.
