Default Flywheel nut?

Does the nut that holds the flywheel to the crank have normal threads or reverse threads. I was just wondering because once me and stepdad was replacing the clutch on a Suz LT230, and we thought it had normal direction threads, but it didn't. So we stripped out the end of the crank.
