Help! 05 Sportsman 500 clutching problem
#1
I baught my sportsman 500 in march of this year. I immediately noticed a significant lack of power in High Range when taking off. It felt like I was trying to pull a car behind me. I took it to the dealer I purchased it from half a dozen times with no success. I then took it to another Polaris dealer which found the NUT JAM was off on the clutch. They replaced it for me. I took it home, went for a ride with the boys and was happy with the difference. Went home cleaned it up and parked it back in the garage where it has been for a little over 2 weeks. Got it out today and immediately felt that lack of power again in high range. I weigh about 140lbs so shouldn't be alot of load on it. I watched the rpm when giving throttle, and it got to about 2600rpms before the bike would even begin to budge.
First, Anyone familiar with this Nut Jam they claimed was off?
Second, could it have come off again?
Third, About what rpm when in high should it begin to pull?
Last, would the heel clicker help prevent this from happening again?

Yeah the jam nut needs to be torqued to 230ft/lbs.I use a little blue locktite as well.I've seen this happen on sleds a few times in the past.Yes it may have come off again.I would look closely at threads on stationary sheave that the jam nut threads on to they are probably damaged from the loose jam nut bouncing around. No a heelclicker kit will not remedy this.
